Kindly refer our earlier email dated 31st August 2017 regarding student research mobility program with MITACS, Canada for the research work by Indian students at Canada.

2. In the year 2017-18, MITCAS shortlisted 80 students for research work at Canada. Out of these, 73 students accepted the projects.

3. In the academic year 2018-19, MITACS will select 200 Indian Students for their research work at Canada. The students selected by MITACS shall be funded by parent institution and expenditure shall be admissible under academic component of project life allocation. Mitacs will synchronize the research areas of selected Indian Students with the one available at Canadian Universities.

4. For the year 2018-19, the selected students will depart to Canada between May and July 2019 and will start their internships. The interested students have to apply online on Mitacs globalink well before the deadline.

5. You are requested to make this program popular among the students of your institute and sensitize them to apply through MITACS globalink at the following

link: Globalink Research Internship web page.

6. The student eligibility and selection process is attached as Annex-1. The last date to submit the applications are 19th September 2017.

7. Further, guidelines for student mobility programme are as follows:

· The selected students shall spend 12 weeks (between May and September) in Canada on a research project in their area of interest.

· The total expenditure for per students per internship is $ 15000 CAD. Mitacs will take care for research costs, supplementary programming and accommodation at the estimated cost of $ 11000 CAD per student.

· The parent project institution of the students shall take responsibility for airfare, visa, health insurance and living stipend (cost of food etc in Canada). It is based on a 12 week stay, at the estimated cost of $ 4000 CAD per student ($2500 living stipend, $1500 flight reimbursement). The students must receive their funds in full under TEQIP-III at least 30 days prior to their departure for Canada.

· The actual expenditure incurred by the institute for such student may be booked under R&D head of TEQP-III funds.

· Feedback from the students in terms of knowledge enrichment shall be taken by the institute on return.

You are requested to take necessary action urgently, so that the student mobility programme could be implemented in timely manner starting in the year 2018-19.

  1. Student Eligibility: Senior undergraduate students from (preferably 5th to 7th semester) engineering streams, enrolled fulltime in TEQIP-III institutions are eligible to apply to the program.
  2. Students will go to Canada during the period of May to June in 2018 and will stay back for next 12 weeks.
  3. To apply, students must provide:
    • Transcripts for all completed undergraduate coursework, if this is not available in English, student must submit a translated and notarized copy before the application deadline.
    • CV that details their research experience
    • At least one reference letter from an academic research professor or supervisor
    • Expression of research interest
  4. The program is competitive and in addition to the above, students are evaluated on a combination of factors including their academic records and skills appropriate to the projects. Students must:
    • Have a minimum grade point average of 9.0 to apply to the program
    • Completed the age of 18
    • Demonstrate oral and written fluency in English or French, depending on the language of preference as noted by the host professor
    • Select at least three(3) and no more than seven (7) projects from at least (3) of Canada’s provinces and/or territories and
    • Student must possess a passport that is valid at least until January 2020.
    • Must complete application by September 19, 2018 at 1.00 PM pacific daylight time.
